Discord hands out a fresh invite link every time you click “Invite People”, and by default that link expires after 7 days. If you paste one of those into Symbiotic, the doable works for a week and then quietly sends every shopper to an “Invite Invalid” screen.
So the whole job is: make one that never expires, then paste it.
Make the permanent invite
- Open Discord on desktop or web and go to your server.
- Right-click the channel you want newcomers to land in — usually
#welcomeor#general— and choose Invite People. (Channel matters: the invite drops people straight there.) - At the bottom of the pop-up, click Edit invite link.
- Set Expire after to Never.
- Set Max number of uses to No limit.
- Click Generate a New Link, then Copy.
You’ll have something like https://discord.gg/a1b2c3d4.
Check it before you paste it: open the link in a private browsing window. You should see your server’s join screen, not “This invite is invalid or has expired.”
Paste it into Symbiotic
- In your Shopify admin, open Symbiotic → Doables.
- Choose Join our Discord and click Add.
- Paste the link into Link to open.
- Set what it’s worth. 4% is our default — a Discord member is worth more than a follow, because you can actually reach them.
- Click Save, then Turn on.
Make it worth joining
A shopper who joins a dead server leaves the same day, and you’ve paid a discount for nothing. Before you switch this on, make sure a newcomer sees something in the first ten seconds: a pinned post that says what the server is for, one channel with recent messages, and a reason to come back.
Troubleshooting
“This invite is invalid or has expired.” The link was generated before you set Expire after: Never. Generate a new one with the settings above — changing the setting does not revive an old link.
People join and immediately can’t see anything. Your server likely has a rules-screening or verification gate. That’s fine, but keep it to one step — every extra screen costs you members you’ve already paid for.
You want to know who actually joined. Discord is the one social doable that can be verified, through a Discord application you own. That’s on our roadmap; today this doable works on trust like the rest, and the widget tells shoppers so.
